Summary

"The Samovar Girl" by Frederick Ferdinand Moore is a tale set in the bleak expanse of a Siberian exile settlement, portraying the difficult existence of young Peter Gorekin, the son of a political prisoner. Facing life under severe oppression, Peter is drawn into the world of Katerin Kirsakoff, the Governor’s daughter, amidst a landscape of political unrest. During his childhood, Peter toils alongside his father, a bootmaker in the Valley of Despair, living under the constant watch of the Cossack soldiers of the Czar. Tragedy strikes when his father is killed due to a slight against the Governor, resulting in Peter’s imprisonment and propelling him away from everything he once knew in this complex story of nobility versus oppression during one of history's most turbulent periods.
